Six String Vandals were 'born' in 2002, an
amalgamation of two singer/songwriters, Richard 'Oggi' Osborne and Nigel Fry
(Stage name
'Urban Fox') and have recently signed a recording agreement with 'First Time
Records' (Plymouth & Manchester); their first single due April 22nd.
Nigel has played individually and in many bands over the last twenty years,
as well as with his wife Jenni (flute) as Urban Fox. He has
written and performed over a hundred original songs, as well as performing
in folk clubs in the early years.
Richard has concentrated on writing and recording and has produced a Cd of
his own songs as well as mixing and producing Six String Vandal's two
earlier Cds of original material and the first mixes of the latest album for
First Time Records.
Their original material as well as the 'vandalised' versions of songs by
influences such as Stereophonics, REM, Crowded House, U2 and Nirvana that
make up part of their gig sets are all lean with no waste and feature strong
vocals/harmonies, melody lines and hooks.
For the past three years they have had a residency at the well respected
local music venue 'The Crown' in Richard's home village of West Haddon,
Northamptonshire, but have mainly concentrated on recording. However, they
recently played the Byfield music festival to all round critical
acclaim, and will be playing many 'Showcases' throughout the UK under the
First Time banner in 2006.
They both feel that their performing and song writing has matured to the
stage where they can exploit both to their full potential and believe that
the artistic freedom offered by 'First Time' is the perfect vehicle to
realise this potential.
